Barnes-Young made history as the first African-American woman elected to the Town of Walls Board of Alderman in 2021.
Originally from Silver City, in Humphreys County Miss., Barnes-Young moved to the Town of Walls in 2017 after living in Memphis for 15 years.
Barnes-Young holds a social work degree from Mississippi Valley State University and a master’s degree in human resources management from Webster University.
Barnes-Young works as a social worker with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, but her passion for serving others extends beyond her professional career. She is committed to improving the community and the lives of all residents through high-quality education and adequate access to resources.
